E-BOOKS OR HARD COPY? a debate of 2020

2020 has greatly influenced the life as we know it. This year bought with it many new surprises, loses and things we will never be able to comprehend. As believers we know that everything has a reason and Covid along with immensely influencing our life has also bought some improvements. We have switched more towards online and one of the greatest influence it had was on the schools and the trend of studying. eBook have been out for a very long time and has been the latest trend thanks to social distancing and online studies which is no more than a nightmare for many book sellers. It is one of the flourishing industry and many people are employed through it. But is it worth to use ebook? Or our conventional system was better?
Today we discuss the pros and cons of eBooks that has been a big question mark for many people?

EBOOKS:

Pros:
  • It saves tress, no manufacturing process thus saves carbon footprint
  • As the data is easy to store and easy to erase it doesn't create a burden on the environment. The conventional books get updated each year and the older versions are of no use to anyone. The disposal of which is difficult and is an extra cost
  • It is very handy, everything can be carried in the phone increasing the accessibility
  • Sharing books is easy and inexpensive
Cons:
  • Increases the screen time people spent on phones. This has long term effects such as loss of vision, disturbance in sleep cycles, less outdoor activity, unfit individuals, depression and chronical diseases.
  • One click can delete the records

Conventional Books:

Pros:
  • This conventional system had its own perks, people visiting parks to read from their favourite books.
  • It is very convenient to have things in hard format especially if the context is educational as educational books has to be used for longer periods of time.
  • It is good for the eyes as compared to phone and has other associated health benefits.
  • It is huge industry and many people are employed
Cons:
  • It can be bulky as compared to the compacted version in phone.
  • Once the books is updated it get outdated and means waste of resources
The recent market conditions has greatly declined for novels and other entertainment category books. People prefer to download free versions and read it according to their convivence however the trend of printed conventional books in hard copy format is still in for educational books. People avoid to study from computers as it causes strain to eyes and is quite difficult.
